James P. Gorman, Executive Chairman of Morgan Stanley | Columbia Business School

Montreal - Morgan Stanley hosted the 2024 Montreal Code to Give Hackathon, where university students developed innovative technology solutions for nonprofits Le Chaînon and the Quebec Coalition of Orphan Diseases. The winning projects will now be further developed by Morgan Stanley technologists through the Technology Changemakers program.

Madeline Hutchinson, Global Head of Technology Philanthropy at Morgan Stanley, expressed excitement about the prototypes developed during the hackathon. She stated, "Code to Give provides the next generation of technologists with a platform to tackle nonprofits’ technology challenges in partnership with experienced mentors from the Morgan Stanley technology organization."

For Le Chaînon, the winning team, Team La ChaîNet, created an administrative dashboard to enhance communication and access to intervention plans for women. Dany Lessard, Deputy Director of Le Chaînon, acknowledged the impact of technology, saying, "Technology can be a game changer for organizations like ours, but we often don’t have access to the skills and resources needed to implement the technology on our own."

The Quebec Coalition of Orphan Diseases saw Team Galactic Healer, also from Concordia University, win with a solution utilizing generative AI for improved doctor-patient interactions. Jonathan Pratt, Executive Director of the Quebec Coalition of Orphan Diseases, highlighted the significance of the solutions developed, stating, "The solutions brought forward in the hackathon will have a major impact on the Quebec Coalition of Orphan Diseases."

The Code to Give Hackathons provide students with the opportunity to collaborate with Morgan Stanley experts and apply their tech skills to support local nonprofits. Annually, over 550 Morgan Stanley professionals mentor students in various global locations, with Montreal having supported 7 nonprofits since 2021.
